Huffdaddy's Links of the Day

Okay.  So I have been particularly remiss in posting (that is what happens when your job comes in bursts!).  So to get the discussions rolling again, here are a few links to articles I read over the past two weeks.  They are in no particular order and they don't even really relate to each other in some sort of theme.  I will be posting more later today.

Enjoy!

Hitchens debating Blackwell on faith and the founding of our republic (and doing an excellent job at destroying Blackwell).  I didn't want to search for the embed code so I linked to the site on which I found it.

A great DIY article on how to get home improvement projects done on the inexpensive (not necessarily on the cheap).  Lara tells a great story about her granddad building his house out of "recycled" materials from the dump and construction sites.  Plus as Aaron can attest, Pepaw was always building whatever out of "recycled" parts.

A decent (won't say great) article on how law and ethics are not necessarily related.  As a law-dog I tend to agree that a lot of what gets passed into law these days is more malum prohibita versus malum in se.  Malum in se laws  criminalize acts which in and of themselves are morally wrong (e.g. murder and rape) - which moral system you use is up to you (and the subject of much debate).  Malum prohibita laws criminalize acts which the gubmint says is wrong (but not necessarily from a moral standpoint) such as the drug laws and laws criminalizing act X because they want to outlaw it.  Unfortunately the legal system has already criminalized all the bad acts and has run out of things to outlaw when the sheeple want "something done" and so they begin tinkering with acts which have nothing to do with harming other persons in the name of "doing something."  Thoughts?

Ah yes, the propaganda machine.  Sure they don't use "propaganda" these days, right?

Finally an interesting diatribe on B.O. and his campaign "promises" versus his acts once he is in office.  This one is not so much about B.O. more than it is about politicians in general (it just so happens the guy is explaining it by using B.O. as the example).  It's a little long (about 20 minutes) but you can play it in the background while you are surfing the, ahem, free "pictures" (right Landon?).

What did you think of this article?
