In the interest of general interest discussion lets go ahead get the ball rolling in the nerdly directions. video's a little long 11min or so, and i wouldnt even bother if you have no interest in theoretical physics. im wondering what our resident physicists can add regarding string and membrane theory.
Well all I can add to this is that I did take Quantum Physics and I thought it was exciting and mind expanding, I still could not grasp most of the concepts beyond a theoretical understanding. I am more of what is termed a classical physicist and E&M. Although I do enjoy talking abstractions, I would really have to get the ball rolling on a specific example...

Like all, I agree that this is an interesting concept. The only experience I have with multi-dimensional, multi-verses is through popular science. As long as the math agrees with the hypothesis its possible. Which reminds me, I need to stock up on physics book in my library. Wouldn't it be interesting if all 10 dimensions existed on the hypothetical twisted tape and the tenth dimension turned out to be a dot in the zeroth.

While the singularity is always farther off than you think, I fully expect to see Johnny Mnemonic style "head jacks" where you can plug things in and download them within 30 years. But being able to upload your personality to the net, and retain it, is the tricky shit. Can the mind be pulled from the body? Or just copied? Can there be a real you and a new uploaded you at the same time? And would it be possible to sync with the living body?
At least without going insane.
That will be the tough one.
Or will you have to save some tissue, to act as your 'server' like this

i never saw the whole johnny mnemonic, but apparently the matrix guys stole their idea (whoa, i know kung fu). but i like how these several threads are starting to blend. we need to discuss the fourth plateau next time we be in faces. discarnate beings and whatnot. there is no insane. just authority figures who believe your family.
i believe the mind can be pulled from the body, but simultaneous egos ill have to think about. and yes it can resync with the living body.
the body is the tissue-server.
(misplaced modifier alert) if i could plug something into my head i better damn well be able to download it faster than 30 years. my mind-machine interface better be at least faster than dial-up
